As we start this fresh new year, it's a great time to set intentions and make positive changes in our lives. One way to do this is by creating a home that supports our intentions and values. That's why we're excited to show you how you can achieve a beautiful and soulful bedroom using a mix of vintage and modern décor pieces, including a timeless ivory coloured Moroccan rug, a charming vintage French milking stool, and handmade African mud cloth pillows.

Why Mixing Vintage and Modern Styles Can Create a Soulful and Unique Bedroom

Mixing vintage and modern styles can create a home that is uniquely yours and that reflects your personal style and values. By choosing pieces that have meaning and history, you can create a living space that supports your intentions and adds depth and character to your home.

Incorporating vintage pieces into your home can also bring a touch of nostalgia and remind you of your roots and the things that are important to you. On the other hand, incorporating modern pieces can add a touch of sophistication and keep your home looking fresh and current.

By mixing vintage and modern styles, you can create a home that is both timeless and relevant, and that tells your unique story and expresses your personality.

How to Choose the Right Vintage and Modern Pieces for Your Bedroom

When choosing vintage and modern pieces for your bedroom, it's important to consider your personal style and the look and feel you want to achieve. Here are some tips for selecting the right pieces:

  • Choose pieces that you love and that have meaning or significance to you.
  • Consider the colour palette and overall design of the room, and choose pieces that will complement or contrast with the existing decor.
  • Look for pieces that have good quality and craftsmanship, and that are in good condition.
  • Mix different styles and periods to create a unique and eclectic look.

Some great vintage pieces to consider for your bedroom include antique or vintage furniture, such as a bed frame or armchair, as well as vintage or antique textiles, such as rugs, blankets, or pillows. You can also add vintage accents, such as vintage lamps, mirrors, or artwork.

For modern pieces, consider sleek and minimalist furniture, such as a platform bed or a side table, as well as modern textiles, such as bed linens or curtains. You can also add modern accents, such as modern lighting, vases, or wall art.

In this bedroom, we've used a timeless ivory coloured Moroccan rug to ground the space and create a cohesive look. This rug is a great example of a quality, classic piece to invest in that will last a lifetime. Its neutral colour and classic design will bring warmth and depth to any room in your home, and it's a great way to make a statement and set the tone for the rest of the room.

As a bedside table, we've used a charming vintage French milking stool with the most interesting spindle legs. This stool is a beautiful example of how incorporating a unique vintage piece can really set this room apart and add character and personality. Its history and traditional design bring a touch of nostalgia, while its sleek and modern finish adds sophistication.

Finally, we've topped the bed with handmade African mud cloth pillows. The mud cloth is woven and dyed in Mali using an ancient technique that dates back centuries, yet their design is contemporary and timeless and we hand sew the pillows in house. The hand woven natural fiber cloth adds much needed texture, adding dimension while maintaining a calming neutral palette.

African Mud Cloth Pillow

African mudcloth, also known as bògòlanfini or bogolan, is a traditional textile from West Africa. It is made by the Bambara people of Mali, who have been creating mudcloth for centuries using a labor-intensive process.

The resulting mudcloth is a unique and beautiful textile that is highly prized for its intricate patterns and rich, earthy colors. It is often used to make clothing, accessories, and home decor items, and is a popular choice for anyone looking for a traditional, handcrafted African textile.

African mudcloth is a true work of art, and each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation. It is a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the Bambara people, and a beautiful representation of the rich cultural heritage of West Africa.

By surrounding yourself with items that have history and soul, you can create a living space that supports your intentions and values.
